History

1996

Company founded in Hamburg by Dr. Wolfgang Brüggemann.

Initially, the focus is on advising real estate companies and the city of Hamburg. This core business leads to the gradual creation of a team of specialists. And subsequently to the company’s successful entry into the development sector.

Development milestones include the building complex for the Hanseatic city’s Environment Agency, an office complex for a renowned insurance company, the so-called ABC Bogen and developments to cover the train tracks at Hamburg’s central railway station.

A multi-year mandate for the EXPO 2000 in Hanover to strategically optimise the special-purpose building development with a view to subsequent use and advising the Austrian railway company on the restructuring of railway properties and their commercial use in Austria are within Brüggemann GmbH’s range of activities in the 1990s.

2003

From this year onwards, the company increases its focus on distressed properties or non-performing loans (NPL). The team of specialised and experienced partners is constantly added to, so that an increasing number of mandates can be taken on. At the same time, the network of investors with whom transactions can be carried out off market also grows.

2004

The company relocates its head office to the capital city of Berlin. Thanks to the interdisciplinary team, complex transactions in the domains of office, retail, hotel and residential from the NPL portfolios of renowned German credit institutions can be successfully prepared and seen through to completion.

Increasingly, large and medium-sized problem properties with transaction volumes of up to 150 million euros per property are handled on behalf of the banks’ Risk Management departments and completed successfully with discreet marketing.

2008

Through the foreign subsidiaries of German banks, the company also takes on distressed property projects in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Poland for the first time.

2012

The capacity of the team of partners is increased further and the international network of investors is expanded successively from the Berlin headquarters. The company still has an office in Hamburg. Brüggemann GmbH is now also present and active in Düsseldorf, London, Utrecht, Vienna and Warsaw.

The focus is increasingly on distressed properties which are suitable for private placements. To an increasing degree, the strategic analyses and assessments can help investment companies reach decisions.

2016

Brüggemann GmbH can look back at 20 years of successful business.
